In chapter 8, Ezra and several thousand sons of Israel are returning to Jerusalem.  Along the way, they stop to fast and pray to God for protection for the journey.  It was important to them to rely on God, because they carried with them a great amount of wealth and had no military protection.  This is an example of God will deliver His people.
