I Gave My Life For Thee

Series: Hymns

The young, frail Frances Havergal was inspired by a painting depicting the Crucifixion at a museum in Dusseldorf, Germany to write the lyrics to "I Gave My Life For Thee". Havergal committed the poem to the flames that same evening, yet the song was curiously preserved by a small gust of wind. The song has now become one of the most recognized and oft-sung songs in congregations of the Lord's people.

"I Gave My Life For Thee" calls our attention to the fact that Christ left heaven and came to earth to suffer and die for mankind in order to bring about salvation from sins. We commend this lesson to your understanding of this beautiful hymn.
