A Study Of "Eternal Destruction"

The Bible teaches unequivocally that there is an eternal destiny for all mankind. For those who acknowledge God, an eternity in Heaven; for those who refuse to acknowledge God, an eternity of torment. This is the only way biblically to understand Paul's words in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 - "the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day, and to be marveled at among all who have believed—for our testimony to you was believed." To understand "eternal destruction" as total cessation of existence (i.e. annihilationism) contradicts clear Bible usage of these terms and undermines the very identity of God and the true consequences of sin.
